Frequently Asked Questions about Thanksgiving Turkeys

Can I have my turkey shipped?

Yes. Order a turkey here and have it shipped to your door.

How will my turkey be shipped?

Turkeys will be shipped frozen in an insulated container to ensure that they arrive at your door in good condition.

When will my turkey be shipped?

Hillcrest Meats and The Farmer's Turkey will be shipped the week you order. Golden Prairie Turkeys and Best of Iowa Turkeys will be shipped November 16.

What's the best way to cook a turkey?

Well, that's debatable. But we like to cook them upside down. Learn more here.

How much turkey do I need?

We recommend 1-1.5 pounds of turkey per person so that you have plenty of turkey leftovers. Feeding a large crowd? Sometimes it's better to cook 2 small turkeys instead of 1 large turkey. A larger turkey needs to cook longer, and you risk drying out the white meat while waiting for the dark meat to fully cook.

How do I know when my turkey is done cooking?

Use a meat thermometer to check the turkey in several locations. The temperature should reach 165 degrees throughout. Make sure to let the turkey rest at least 15 minutes before carving. This will help redistribute the juices.
