West Forty Market

After years of rave reviews over the beef John & Sue Ebensberger were producing on their hobby farm, West Forty (40 acres west of Greene, IA) was born!

We have been selling individual cuts and custom wholesale options in Greene since 2013 and Des Moines since 2016. In September 2019, John & Sue purchased the grocery store in Greene, renaming it West Forty Market. You can find all of our locally raised meats at the store!

After being a full time vendor at the Des Moines Farmers Market and offering delivery around the metro, Teresa (their daughter) decided to open her own retail store in Ankeny, IA in May 2021. West Forty Market is located in Uptown Ankeny and features over 120 cuts of beef, pork, chicken, bison, lamb and turkey - all raised on local Iowa farms and butchered in Iowa. We also feature over a dozen local products, including pasta, rubs, sauces and honey.

Grass-fed, grain-finished and raised with love and care ... we are confident you'll enjoy the amazing flavor and tenderness of our meats!

Pork Loin Near Me

Pork loin is a lean and versatile cut that is perfect for roasting, grilling, or even slicing into chops. Known for its mild flavor and tender texture, pork loin is a great choice for both everyday meals and special occasions. Whether you’re roasting a whole loin for a family dinner or cutting it into chops for a quick meal, this cut of pork offers a delicious, easy-to-prepare option that works well with a variety of seasonings and cooking techniques.

With its balance of tenderness and flavor, pork loin is ideal for both slow-cooking and quick grilling. The lean nature of this cut makes it perfect for those who want a lower-fat option without sacrificing flavor. It’s also incredibly versatile, making it a go-to cut for roasting, stuffing, or even making pork medallions.

Fun Facts About Pork Loin:

  • Pork loin is one of the leanest cuts of pork, which means it’s lower in fat compared to other cuts like pork belly or pork shoulder.

  • Pork loin is extremely versatile and can be roasted whole, sliced into medallions, or cut into pork chops.

  • It’s often paired with fruity sauces like apple, cranberry, or plum for a sweet and savory combination.

  • When cooked properly, pork loin can be incredibly tender and juicy, making it ideal for family meals or dinner parties.

Nutritional Benefits:

  • Protein: Pork loin is an excellent source of high-quality protein, which supports muscle repair, immune function, and overall health.

  • B Vitamins: Packed with B6 and B12, which are essential for energy production, red blood cell formation, and proper nerve function.

  • Iron & Zinc: Contains iron, which helps transport oxygen through your body, and zinc, which supports immune health and cell growth.

Cooking Tips:

  • Roast for Tenderness: Pork loin is best when roasted slowly in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes per pound. For added flavor, stuff it with herbs or fruits like apples or garlic before roasting.

  • Grill for Flavor: For a quicker meal, grill pork loin steaks or pork loin medallions on medium-high heat, cooking each side for about 4-5 minutes until they’re golden brown and cooked through.

  • Sear Before Roasting: For a flavorful, crispy crust, sear your pork loin in a hot pan before finishing it in the oven. This adds texture and enhances the flavor of the meat.

  • Add a Marinade: To enhance the natural flavor of pork loin, marinate it for a few hours before cooking. Consider using a marinade with mustard, vinegar, herbs, or even soy sauce for added depth.

Cooking Temperatures:

  • Pork loin should be cooked to an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) for tender and juicy results. Allow the meat to rest for at least 3 minutes before slicing to lock in the juices.
